House of Pet Supplies is a specialty pet supply distributing company started by Stephanya Harris and her former husband Tom Mulliken in 1977. House of Pets has long specialized in groomer, spa, apparel, and boutique products. Upon Stephanya's death in 2006, the business was owned and operated by a group of loyal long-time employees including Warren Burt, Jane Barber, Rachael Greco and Virginia Murray. December 28th, 2007 saw the purchase of House of Pets by another family business, Lone Star Pet Supply, owned by Dennis & Anna Stahl. Lone Star Pet is headquartered in Schertz, Texas, a suburb of San Antonio. Lone Star Pet Supply was founded in 1952 and has been owned by members of the same family since 1965. House of Pets maintained its name and identity in becoming a subsidiary of Lone Star Pet Supply. There was a very long history and relationship between the two companies that many people may be surprised to learn. In the early 1970's Tom Mullikan actually "carried a bag" as an independent sales rep for Lone Star Pet. This was prior to Tom and Stephanya opening House of Pets. Stephanya actually began the business out of their garage and specialized in jeweled dog collars. The long time home of House of Pets was in Fort Worth. That facility closed for shipping on December 24, 2007. The business was moved to the Lone Star Pet Supply facilities in Schertz, Texas. Both companies share two buildings encompassing 130,000 square feet of office and warehouse space. House of Pets has always prided itself in giving fast, friendly service. Dennis & Anna Stahl had great admiration for the House of Pets business model for many years. With House of Pets becoming a subsidiary of Lone Star Pet, several thousand new items became available from House of Pets. The Stahls have also committed additional resources to upgrade the House of Pets business.
